It's cold out!
By Linda Wegner

"Baby, it's cold outside". Written in 1944 by Frank Loesser, and popularized by Dean Martin and Marina McBride, the message it contains isn't the one I'm trying to convey this week but the description of the weather is bang on. Whether here or across North America, it's cold outside!

For those of us blessed with warm clothes and a warm place to live, it's easy to wax poetic about the plummeting temperatures we're experiencing during this February 2019 but my thoughts have been with those homeless folks struggling to survive. Even those living in the tent cities I view as I ride the bus most mornings, can't be comfortable. I've often thought of them and wondered what I, just one person, can do to help.

This week I, that "one person", became an answer to prayer for me and also, I hope, for the other unnamed "one person". I'd gone for my usual morning walk, ending with a cup of tea at my favourite shop, when I noticed a lady sitting in a corner, head down on the table. I asked the staff about her and they hadn't noticed her in their busyness. I felt so privileged to be able to buy her breakfast. That was an answer to prayer and a highlight of my week. Compared to what many others do, it was so little, but it was the door God opened for me that day.

We live in a society that has become disturbingly self-centred; this incident encouraged me to know that me no matter the circumstances, the weather or our personal ability to help, it's God's will that we bless someone else.

"In response to all He has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good." Hebrews 10:24 (Living Bible)
