Local writer finalist for national award
POWELL RIVER – May 2013 – Local writer Linda Wegner has been shortlisted in a national writing competition for her book, 3D Success – Changing Careers in Mid Life.
Wegner, owner of Words of Worth, is a member of the Powell River Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Toast to the Coast Toastmasters club. She is also active in various non-profit organizations in the community.
Wegner’s book provides step-by-step practical encouragement and information for those facing major career or life changes. The concept for the book evolved from a series of workshops presented at Career Link, a Powell River employment agency, as part of its Targeted Initiative for Older Workers program.
Wegner is a finalist in the Instructional book category in the 2013 Word Awards sponsored by The Word Guild (TWG).
The winner will be announced on June 12th at a black-tie Awards Gala at World Vision’s headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario. The public is invited. The Gala is the premier event honouring the work of Canadian writers.
The contest received almost 300 entries from writers across Canada. The over-30 award categories include non-fiction books, novels, articles, columns, poems, blogs and song lyrics.
“I am pleased to be shortlisted for this award,” Wegner said. “My sole purpose in writing it was to encourage and support others by sharing what I’ve learned through the process of setting up my own business.”
